It was when I realised that the Writing Magazine I'd just picked off my 'unread' pile dated back to 2007 that I decided it was probably time to unsubscribe. But what's frustrating is that this means also giving up Writers' News - which I do read - because, of course, the two of them come as a package. Why??
This seems so perverse to me. Sainsbury's don't make me buy bread before they'll sell me butter. The local chippie's happy for me to have just a fishcake or a small carton of curry sauce - I'm not obliged to take unrequired mushy peas as well.
Weird. Anyway, I've taken the plunge. I'm going it alone. Which should leave me a bit more time for actually writing.

That's something that drives me bananas too - I love Writer's News but the actual mag does my head in, especially all those old men with dodgy dentures leering off the page. Why don't they sell one without the other? WHY?
I must go and sort out my unread pile of mags!!!
They're definitely missing a trick there! I'd buy Writer's News.
Ms Spiral - the dodgy dentures - I know just what you mean!
Casdok - do you have piles of unread mags and then piles of unread books as well? I have a colleague at the moment who generously shares every good book she reads, and she reads a LOT. So many books; so little time.
Karen - yup, missing a trick. Sums it up.
It takes a month of Sundays to read, as you say...and added to ever-present Mountain of Good Reading Intentions beneath bed, table, stairs etc. I was in a way relieved when payment arrangements went haywire and they stopped sending. Can still read it in the library if essential.
